About Me

Bilinda Skinner, author of Gluten Free Adventures In Auckland.

I am a gluten free Aucklander who is a foodie in the truest sense and who loves her city and her country. I am many things to many people, a wife, a sister, a sister-in-law, a daughter, a daughter-in-law and a friend. I believe I have done a lot with my (not too many) years so far – some travel, higher education, I’ve been a retail worker, a bank teller and am now a teacher, which I love. Currently I am writing in numerous forms and following other passions too, such as cooking in my own little kitchen for my always grateful husband, sewing clothes I design myself and doing a little photography. All the photos on my blog I have taken myself and will continue to do so. Upon finding myself terribly ill five years ago I began my gluten free journey, one that has brought me to health and happiness and has taught me the difficulties of dining out gluten free. I hope by sharing the truly safe gluten free establishments I have found I can help others who are travelling to Auckland or who are just starting their own gluten free journey.

  1. Oh my gosh Bilinda you make so much sense! I would love to meet you and chat about the GF issues I have come across. My wee daughter is GF and the same as you, we decided not to go ahead with the biopsy for the same reasons you mentioned! Why!? We now Gluten makes her sick and therefore there was no reason to undergo a biopsy.
I love what you wrote about the guilt of being GF, it seems we are always the party poppers now and we are struggling with it all a little. My daughter often says “I wish I could eat gluten Mummy”.
Anyway I will try to follow your blog, I’m not too techie so we’ll see. We live in Auckland too so the cafe and restaurant guide is great! Trying to find GF places to go on Xmas day. :0
    Kindest regards

    • Hi Sandi, thank you so much for your comment. It helps to know there are others who feel the same way. I have been a bit slack with my blog to be honest but I do have some new posts to put up shortly. I am also trying to find somewhere to go on Christmas Day with my husband’s family but it is almost impossible, everywhere is closed or won’t cater or offers a buffet which is risky in terms of contamination or crazy expensive. Nonetheless I am still looking and will let you know if I find anywhere. Please let me know if you do too! As to meeting up I would love to meet you and chat about all things Gluten Free I know what a difficult journey it can be. I am in Mt Eden and can recommend a coffee at Frasers if you are interested let me know a time/day that suits you. Afternoons work best for me but I am sure we can work something out. Take Care, Bilinda
